Memantine - Namenda |
Memantine is an oral medication for treating patients with Alzheimer
disease. Acetylcholine and acetyl cholinesterase are the important
enzymes in the body, which lead to the situation of Alzheimer’s.
Memantine effects independently in the Acetylcholine and acetyl
cholinesterase. Glutamate is the main neuron transmitter in the
brain.
This glumate is mainly responsible for the de generation of these
nerves, which make some neurological diseases like Alzheimer's. Like
any other neuron transmitter, glumate also produce and release the
nerve cells in the brain. Then these released glumate travel to near
by nerves cells, which is attached with a receptor. So avoiding the
growth of glumate is helpful for avoiding the neurological diseases
like Alzheimer's. Memantine block these receptors which helpful to
decrease the effect of glumate. Other than this Memantine or Namenda
also protect nerve cells from excess stimulation by glumate.
The doctor prescribes Memantine to a patient after conducting so
many tests. This helps them to identify whether the patients have
any problem with the Memantine or Namenda. The children aged below
13 is not allowed to take the Memantine. The people who are above 60
can take the medicine according to the doctor prescriptions. The
patients who are having kidney disease, seizures (convulsions) or a
seizure disorder, an unusual reaction to Memantine, other medicines,
foods, dyes, or preservatives, pregnant or trying to get pregnant
are not allowed to take the Memantine or Namenda. The Memantine is
also excreted in the breast milk. So the patient who is in breast
feeding is also restricted to take the Memantine.
